Your outdoor sign is one of the first things that your potential customers see before they even visit your business. So it's vital to ensure that the first impression you create through your outdoor signage is nothing less than impeccable.

Your signage plays a crucial role in directing the flow of traffic within your business and when done correctly, it can help convert the traffic into sales. If you want to attract customers into your business and direct them in an effective and creative manner, follow these tips:

Use Big Fonts

An effective business signage is one that customers can easily read. A recent study found that smaller business signs saw a 75% reduction in response rate compared to larger signs.

When choosing the font size for your signage, look at it from your customers' perspective. Will they be walking past your sign, driving past it in their car or encountering them on the product label? Don't forget to consider people with eyesight or senior citizens, who prefer larger text.

Clarity of text is another important factor to keep in mind when choosing fonts. Although you may prefer to use stylish fonts, certain Italic and cursive fonts can prove to be super risky. For maximum impact, be sure to use fonts that are clear and visible.

Get the Placement Right

There are some rules of thumb in the signage industry that determine where customers will look in search of signage. For example, directional signage should hang down the ceiling. Alternatively, if you are placing them in the aisles, the signage should be higher than the eye level!

On the other hand, promotional signage should be placed at ground level on the street to grab the attention of passers-by. If you are placing it in the window display, the signs should be positioned at eye level.

Also bear in mind that "eye-level" differs from person to person. People in cars, those in wheelchairs and kids - everyone has a different even level, so test your signage positioning to identify the best height for your target audience.

Keep the Copy Short and Bold

There's nothing worse than signage copy that is long and endless. Avoid cluttering your message with too much copy. Aim to get your message across in as few words as possible.

At the same time, it is also important to consider the number of signs already posted in the vicinity of your sign. There's nothing more disconcerting than bombarding your customers with lots of signs.

Avoid using all caps in the copy. This is akin to yelling at your customers and can seem disrespectful to the people who you are trying to invite to your business.

Stand out. Make a statement. Improve revenue.

Helen Pool

"Digital Panther are the best signage people in Leeds, Yorkshire! They really understood the ethos behind my brand which was to exude professionalism and high end gold standard quality. I had a tight deadline to meet before my business photoshoot and they delivered before time which shows how hard-working they are. The signs have exceeded my expectations and have attracted clients purely from passing traffic and footfall. Every patient I have treated has positively commented on how they ‘absolutely love!’ the branding and glamorous ambiance it has created. Martin is incredibly knowledgeable, creative and has a perfectionist’s attention to detail even matching my exact wall colour paint to the background of the signage and advising on the best position for exterior lighting. I also had some business cards made with hot foil gold print to match which are stunning and premium quality. I genuinely can not recommend them enough, simply superb!"
